About
The Rotaract Club of BITS Pilani, started in May, 2007, was formed by a group of students across varied disciplines, all bound by the passion to create a meaningful impact, no matter how small, in the lives of people who live outside the campus as well as to create awareness about key issues in the people on campus. We are a group of 14 people currently.
Over
the last 6 months, we have tried to achieve our goals in all ways we could perceive. Our activities till date consist of:
- Open air screening of ‘An Inconvenient Truth’: This documentary by Nobel Laureate Al Gore exposes the atrocities that are being committed against the environment. The screening saw a turnout of about 400 students.
- Volunteering at Indicorps, Bagar: We have been volunteering at Career melas organized by the NGO, Indicorps at Bagar (Dist: Jhunjhunu) with the aim of educating the rural folk about various career opportunities. We have been aiding in mock interviews and resume making booths at these fairs.
- Google Clean up campaign: As part of Google’s international initiative, we cleaned up Sky lawns and the All Night Canteen, two of the most polluted places on campus and attempted at creating awareness among students.
- Public Speaking forums: We host D-DAY(Discussion, Debates and You), an open house public speaking forum to get students to discuss issues pertaining to society, environment and the campus.
- Volunteered as trainers at Source Pilani: Members of the club volunteered at the rural BPO, Source Pilani during the training phase where selected trainees were oriented with basic English grammar skills.
Besides these, we are also setting up two other projects:
- Creating employment opportunities for womenfolk of the Mess workers at BITS Pilani so as to supplement family earnings
- Streamlining the immunization process in the district of Jhunjhunu.
- Organizing contests during the technical festival to encourage Innovation and better presentation skills among students.
